=-As Sanwo-Olu orders DSS to join investigation
The Lagos State Police Command has disclosed its plans to conduct extensive investigation into the death of the late music artiste, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, who died last Tuesday, 12 September, 2023.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Idowu Owohunwa, said the investigation will include exhumation, autopsy, toxicology, histology, scene visit, medical report, records of suspects, and witnesses’ statements.
This is even as the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to join the investigation and widen the dragnet with inter-agency collaboration and use of best in class technology to unearth the truth.
According to the Commissioner of Police, a 13-man Special Investigation Team has been constituted to be headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Saheed Kassim.
Sanwo-Olu, in a statement on Tuesday, while commiserating with families and fans of the late musician, pleaded with all who may have vital information to the cause of the death of the deceased to assist the investigating team to do a thorough job. He also charged the Police and DSS to maintain a high sense of confidentiality of any information given to them, in order to protect sources of the information.
“However, in order to boost the investigations, I have invited the Department of State Services (DSS) to join the investigation and widen the dragnet with inter-agency collaboration and use of best in class technology to unearth the truth.
“I have instructed that all those who may have played any role whatsoever in any event leading to the death of MohBad be made to face the law after a thorough investigation”, Sanwo-Olu stated.
Owohunwa further hinted on the team’s investigative procedures saying, they are to aggregate all allegations, suspicions, insinuations from all sources, in the cause of interaction with the family, friends and the medical components, with a view to establishing facts, identify pieces of vital evidence that may support a criminal investigation.
“Two, to deploy all forensic, technical and other vital assets that are relevant to the investigation of homicide cases of this nature towards supporting the investigation process.
“Three, to identify all actors. All elements that might be remotely or directly connected to the allegations that we are investigating. And this, of course, I must emphasize includes witnesses” he disclosed.
Meanwhile, several videos are circulating on social media relating to the death of the deceased as some names were also mentioned along the story line. This has led to pockets of protests online with hashtag #justice4Mohbad and a physical protest in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Tuesday, all demanding for killers of the late singer to be brought to book.
